Preparation time: 10 minutes. Yield: 2 servings. Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Here's what we'll need:
Ingredients, What you're gonna need:
- - 2 whole sea bass (or striped bass) cleaned and ready to go
- - 2 tablespoons olive oil for brushing + extra flavor baby bella mushrooms, sliced thin-3 or4 cloves garlic minced
- 1 inch of fresh ginger, grated (has a nice bite!) A touch of spices:
- - 1 Tbsp.Black pepper preferably freshly cracked.
- - 1 tbsp garlic powder
- - 1 tbsp onion powder
- - ½ tablespoon of instant bouillon (like Gia Vi Nau Pho in my favorite flavor to use for the broth base!! you can adjust this up or down depending on how much sodium/fat/umami ya booling with)
- - dried basil and red chili pepper flakes – quantity really depends on your ideal spice level.
Let's get cooking!
- Begin by preheating your oven to 450°F (230°C). Dab a tiny bit of oil on the baking sheet-if using-or cover it with foil for zero-hassle cleanup. Combine the onion powder, garlic powder, basil pepper bouillon chili flakes and ginger in a bowl. Will divide this mixture into two halves later on.
- And with your hands, briefly wash and rinse all the sea bass. We want bone dry fish to grill evenly With a sharp knife, score the top of each fish in diagonal lines about 1 inch apart on both sides. This helps the fish getting seasoned and fancy looking!
- Time to brush! Generously brush both sides of the fish with olive oil. Brush the inside as well, don't ignore it. To that, add the sliced mushrooms and half of your spice mixture along with minced garlic. That will be our tasty filling! When ready to cook, pack the mixture carefully into the cavity of each fish.
- Exterior Flavor - Do Not Neglect the Curbside Season the fish liberally on the outside with remaining spice. Transfer the fish to your baking dish now carefully
- Step 4: Place it in the oven - Roast for another 18-20 min. We are in need of the length and inner temperature of 145°F (63°C) to flake without a fork. Important: The cooking time may vary a bit based on the size of your fish, so be sure to watch it carefully!
- Remove the fish from the oven, as it is cooked through and move onto dressing this bad boy! Use the half of lemon, squeeze it all over on the Hispanic and get that burst from citrus. For a little color and freshness, add some fresh chopped parsley/basil/cilantro. Lastly, for a more of a spice fan like me sprinkle with go-to red chili pepper flakes.
There you have it! The sea bass are served stuffed with garlic mushrooms just out of the charcoal and onto our plates, I would recommend serving it with rice and some grilled veggies for a healthy wholesome meal. Enjoy!
How to get the perfect grilled Sea Bass Anyhow Easy Does It:
Yes very true this dish is really simple and so are our tips. This recipe produces some great flavors whether you bake it in the oven or grill outside. All About Bass: At the market there are two fish fighting for that title of "sea bass":
Atlantic Sea Bass - aka Branzino (Italian for tiny sea bream). Seek out whole fish up to 2 pounds with inky black skin and pink gills. It can be cooked in much the same way as snapper or cod.
Chilean Sea Bass - Not a bass at all, this Antarctic toothfish is very mellow in flavor and texture like butter. More expensive than the Atlantic variety, such is a common pick for dining PROTOzoa.
Scaling or No Scaling? You have options! So in theory, you'd be safe and just strip the scales off traditionally. But one useful tip is to grill the fish filet with scales still on as this helps prevent it from being too dry. They are very tasty just make sure to get rid of the peel before eating.
Grilling Like a Pro: If you grill sea bass, heat up your grill to medium-high and oil the grates! Change the filet half method whereas baking to prepare dinner it uniformly.
Grilled Sea Bass with Garlic Mushrooms Variations
This recipe is the perfect foundation but you could really do any flavor profile! Here are a few ideas to get you started: Mediterranean Twist - Instead of olive oil use lemon-infused olive oil and mixed a bit of dried oregano into the seasoning. Sprinkle crumbled feta cheese and chopped Kalamata olives over top the cooked fish for a Greek flavor.
Spicy Fiesta: Love a kick? Sprinkle a bit of cayenne pepper or add some sliced fresh jalapeno to the mushroom filling. You could even use smoked paprika instead of regular for additional smokiness. Serve with a side of chipotle crema for even more fire.
Citrusy Tingle: Brighten the flavor by mixing in the zest from one orange into all that spice! The fish was drizzled with a fresh orange juice-soy sauce mixture before it headed in for the oven. Sprinkle chopped fresh cilantro on top for one more burst of citrus.
Add an Asian Twist: Replace half of the olive oil with a tablespoon of soy sauce and gathered teaspoon sesame oil. Mix in some finely chopped scallions with the mushroom stuffing and freshly toasted sesame seeds to finish.
Herbalicious: Replace half the parsley with fresh dill or tarragon for a more herbaceous garnish.9111 Alternatively, you can put 1 tablespoon of diced fresh herbs (such as parsley, dill and even chives) in the mushroom stuffing.
Otherwise, and bonus tip... dare you wander off the beaten path? Or, fill your fish with other good stuff like chopped sun-dried tomatoes and spinach or a combination of cooked quinoa, shrimp (chopped), scallions etc.
Note: These are starting points!!! You can have from it any way you like, with some spices and anything else;) Perfect grill Sea Bass (and still Homemade Garlic Mushrooms)..
